The minutes recorded in session duration are credited to all clinicians participating in a group activity. For example, if three staff participate in a plan development activity and Session Duration = 15 minutes, then each participating clinician is credited with 15 minutes of productive time. The note writing clinician is also credited with the number of minutes entered as Documentation time. Then this time is summed and results in the number of minutes billed for the service.
For example - let's say that 3 staff provide a service for a one client where session duration = 15 minutes and documentation time = 5 minutes. The billed time would be calculated as follows:
Clinician 1 (note writer): 15 minutes session + 5 minutes documentation Clinician 2 15 minutes session Clinician 3 15 minutes session
15+ 15+ 15+ 5 = 50 minutes billed time
Now let's say that the service is a more traditional type of group where 2 or more clients are in attendance. We'll use the same session and documentation values as above. The main difference is that the sum of session time and documentation time is divided by the number of clients in attendance so the math is as follows:
15+ 15+ 15+ 5 = 50/2 = 25 minutes billed time per client.
